Favour to Rebuild

Hymn: O God Our Help In Ages Past

The steadfast love of our Lord never ceases.

His mercies never come to an end.

They are new every morning,

New every morning.

Father, great is thy faithfulness O Lord,

Great is thy faithfulness.

Our Father, Lord God Almighty, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. As we thank you for a new day, we declare that You are the Jehovah El-Racum, the merciful and gracious God. You have been our help in the years past and will be in years to come. Today in the name of Jesus we ask that you hold each of us by the right hand and guide. (Psalms 73: 23-26)  Lead us to the fullness of Your will, by the strength of your mighty arm to show forth Your glory. Amen.

Nehemiah 2:2-8

“Therefore, the king said to me, ‘Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart.’ So, I became dreadfully afraid, and said to the king, May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire?

Then, the king said to me, ‘What do you request? So, I prayed to the God of heaven.

And I said to the king,” If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favour in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.”

So, it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. (v6)

Furthermore, I said to the king,” If it pleases the king, let letters be given to me for the governors of the region beyond the River, that they may permit me to pass through till I come to Judah, and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he must give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel which pertains to the temple for the city wall, and for the house that I will occupy”. And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.” (v8)

Good morning brethren, we thank God for His faithfulness and mercies new every day. This morning let us again appreciate our loving father, and the privilege to ask and receive from Him. In this season as we note physical and spiritual walls that have fallen into disrepair, let us ask for favour to rebuild as Nehemiah did.

TO NOTE:

Nehemiah had prayed and fasted many days. – Nehemiah 1:4-11

Nehemiah obtained favour from God: in a court full of intrigue his countenance and manner could have been mistaken for disloyalty and possible conspiracy from the king’s cupbearer.

Rather, the sickness in his heart was noted by the king, who even called on him to make a request.

Nehemiah prayed and planned in dependence on the Lord.

Nehemiah presented his issue with wisdom: he presented the matter as that of personal shame and pride, thus avoided political suspicions.

He gave definite answers of the time to go, and return.

He made definite requests for materials, and travel permits.

Nehemiah received favour from men:

Permit to rebuild which was against King Artaxerxes own policy to stop work on rebuilding of Jerusalem walls (Ezra 4:1-16).

Travel permits and visas.

Permission to use the king’s timber. (Nehemiah2:8a).

Protection and security from the king.

Nehemiah arrived in Judah with the full authority of the throne of Persia behind him.

Glory To God!!!!

Nehemiah gave all the glory to God. (Nehemiah 2:8b).

 LESSONS FROM NEHEMIAH INCLUDE:

▪️There is an opportune time to ask, and to act.

▪️Need to ask appropriately and based on critical review and assessments of the issue, reports, and the action required.

▪️Work Plans required; men, resources, permits, process, security.

▪️Father, I ask for favour from the Throne of Grace to rebuild physical walls currently in disrepair (assets, businesses, careers, relationships, education, national).

▪️Father, I ask for and receive favour from men, institutions and governments; grants, waivers, discounts, suspension of regulations etc as I am led to ask appropriately at the opportune time. (Nehemiah 2)

▪️Father, I ask for favour to encourage and help rebuild spiritual walls in, and around me that are in disrepair.

▪️ Father, I ask for grace to put on all required armour. (Eph 6:13-20)
