Assurance Of Our Salvation. How We Know We Are Saved And The Benefits Of Our Salvation. We Build Our Confidence By Trusting In God’s Word And In Christ’s Provision For Our Sin.

Spiritual Text: John 5:4

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Thou art worthy, O Lord:

to receive glory and honour and power;

For Thou hast created all things:

and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all.’’ 1 Chronicle 29:11

Father we worship and glorify Your holy name, we adore You and give You all the glory!

Brethren, good morning, I would like us to look at the assurance of our salvation, how we know we are saved and the benefits of our salvation.

Roman 10:9, states “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.’’

So, when we confess and we believe we are saved. Therefore, we are saved purely by faith and not the works of our hands.

1 John 1:9 ‘’If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’’

We know we are saved because the Holy Spirit witnesses to us that we are children of God and we show this by the love we have for one another that are in the faith.

However sometimes, we doubt our Salvation as Christians, what are some of the things that steal or weakens our assurance? These are;

• We may believe that since we gave our lives to Christ, we are yet to see any difference in our standard of life.

• Perhaps we are still living a life of disobedience and we keep struggling with besetting sins.

• We may be facing Storms and Challenges of life.

Ways That Can Help Us Handle Our Doubts:

• Spend Time in the place of prayer –

Christ created time alone to be with His Father, we were told in the bible that before Jesus made some important decisions like choosing His disciples, He made out time to spend alone with the Father. Also, in Mark 1: 32-35 even after having a very hectic day, healing the sick, later very early in the morning He went out alone to spend time with the Father.

• Spend time in the place of Worship –

What is worship? Worship is surrendering all to God.

Surrender is best demonstrated in the place of obedience and trust. Like Our Lord Jesus Christ when he said Father that He should take the cup of suffering from Him. Yet He wants the will of God, and not His own. That is a life that is totally surrendered to God.

We should spend time to physically praise and worship God. We lose ourselves in Him, we should not be conscious of what other people are doing, this is between us and God. Remember how David danced when they were bringing back the Ark of God. Jehoshaphat praised God and received victory.

• Spend Time Reading the Words

We establish a friendship with God is by thinking about His word throughout the day. This is called meditation, and the Bible tells us repeatedly to meditate on who God is, what He has done and what He has said. (Joshua 1: 8 and Psalm 1:3).

When you think of a problem over and over again, that is called worrying, but when you focus and think of God’s word over and over again that is called meditation. God loved David and Job because they both spent times in His word. God reveals Himself to us through His words. When we meditate, God speaks to us. When we pray, we speak to God.

Listen to Christian messages and go back and read the scriptures, read Christian books to build you up.

• Spend Time in fellowship with other Christians.

We are part of God’s family. The entire story of the Bible is about God building a family that will love him. Honour Him, and reign with Him forever. We become a member of God’s family by being born again. We should create time and spend with the family of God, Sunday Worship, House Fellowship, Mid-week Services, Bible Study, Corporate prayers, Serving the Lord with other believers.

• We are forgiven all our sins.

• We are God’s Children.

• We are delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of God.

• We are a new Creation. 2 Cor 5:17.

• We have an effective Prayer life. Proverbs 15:29; James 5:16, Luke 9:25

• We have the Holy Spirit to help us. He is our Teacher, Comforter, and help. Acts 1:8.

• We are under God’s Protection. Isaiah 52:12

• We have confidence in our Eternal destination.

Therefore, God is in control of heaven and earth. Because His Word is true, we can have assurance of eternal life and victory over sin. By faith we can be certain of our eternal destiny with him. Assurance of our relationship with God is a promise, but it is also a way of life. We build our confidence by trusting in God’s Word and in Christ’s provision for our sin.

Let us pray.

1. Father we thank You for Your love, we thank You for the gift of our LORD Jesus Christ, we pray that each day we live here on earth we will continue to enjoy the benefits of our salvation and I pray that we will live the life that will earn us eternal life with You in Your Kingdom in Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

2. Revelation 5:12 KJV: “Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”

I pray that by the mercy of God, we will receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory and blessings because our LORD is risen in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
