Jesus. God Loves Bummyla


“So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.”
(1 Kings 17: 10)

That is the Focal Scripture of God’s Standard Devotional today.

God sent Elijah to the home of a widow of Zarephath. The fact that the woman was a widow meant that her husband was dead. Something was missing from her home; Elijah needed a place where he could eat, and God sent him to a place where something was missing.

Despite what was missing, the miracle of getting fed sumptuously during a famine still happened.

Something was missing, yet things worked for Elijah.

Something was missing but it did not stop Elijah’s miracle…
