From Bitter To Sweet. I Pray That The Mercy Of God Will Locate You And Turn Every Bitterness In Your Life To Sweetness In Jesus Name. Amen.
TEXT: Exodus 15:23-27
And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
I want us to thank God for His mercy. Let us thank Him that He did not allow the covid-19 pandemic to swallow us up. He did not allow any calamity to come near our dwellings.
As the Lord lives, God will take us from month to month to the end of year 2021. We shall be victorious and increase from glory to glory in Jesus name.
It is not a coincidence that we just concluded a 21-day session of thanksgiving and we are going into a season of mercy.
There are a lot of things (good or bad) that happen in the life of a person, but the mercy of God is a game changer.
Blind Barthemaeus received mercy and his sight was restored.
The widow of Nain received mercy and her late son was raised back to life.
The impotent man by the pool of Bethesda received mercy and he was made whole.
I pray that the mercy of God will locate you and turn every bitterness in your life to sweetness in Jesus name.
Sometimes in life, we find ourselves in ‘MARAH – a place of bitterness, where things are not pleasant, where things are not what we desire or anticipate, where things are not just working. A place characterized by challenges and difficulties that defy known human solutions.
Our response at these times often determines the results we get. People respond to unpleasant situations in different ways, including:
People can get confused, and instead of working out a solution they take wrong decisions that compound the problems.
2. Live with the problems
Some people conclude that it is their fate and live with the problems. They adapt their lives to suit the problem.
Many people are in denial that the problem exists. They murmur, grumble, complain and blame other people for their adverse situations. This was the case of the children of Israel in our text today. They murmured against Moses, but that did not change their unfortunate situation because the water remained bitter.
4. Acknowledge the problem and seek divine help.
Psalms 121:1-2 tells us to look up to God as the source of help.
Unlike the children of Israel, Moses looked up to God. In response, God told him what to do and the bitter water became sweet.
Not only did God turn the bitter water to sweet, He also brought them to a place of abundance where there were twelve well of water and seventy palm trees.
1. The solution to that problem is not far from you.
Often times, we think that the solution to those problems must be something complicated and beyond our reach. However, it is always near us.
The tree God showed Moses, which he used to cure the bitter water was around the children of Israel all the while, yet they were murmuring , grumbling and complaining.
There was a another example of turning bitter water to sweet in Jericho. (2 Kings 2:18-22). Everything that Elisha used to heal the city of bitter water was existing in that city by the time he was there. He didn’t bring any of it along with him when he arrived Jericho.
As God opened the eyes of Moses, I pray that God will open your eyes to the solution to the issues of your life in Jesus name.
2. God already has the answer to your question, solution to the problem even before the problem showed up.
That tree that Moses used to cure the water was already planted in the wilderness before the children of Israel arrived and noticed that the water was bitter.
This gives me assurance that God has answers to all our problems, even to covid-19.
That problem will not overwhelm you in Jesus name. Amen.
3. God can turnaround any situation and do much more than you ask for.
In our text, all the children of Israel wanted was drinkable water in place of the bitter water that they found in the wilderness.
In His excellency and greatness, God blessed them beyond measures, far and above the problems at hand. He did not only make the water drinkable (sweet), He also brought them to s place of abundance, prosperity. Exodus 15:27
Also in 2 Chronicles 1:6-12, Solomon asked God for wisdom and knowledge but God gave him wealth, possessions and honour in addition.
I pray that you will experience significant divine turnaround this year in Jesus name. What you lack now will turn out to be in abundance in Jesus name.
4. Therefore, whenever you get to a cross road in life, when things are not working as expected, when you get to that key decision point in life, Look Unto God For Direction. Hebrews 12:2b requires us to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
In Exodus 14:12-14, when the children got stuck by the Red Sea, the children of Israel lost hope of survival, they panicked and requested to return to Egypt (especially when they saw the host of Egypt approaching). Moses, however, looked up to God who emboldened him and told him what to do.
I decree and declare that the problem, your adversaries, your challengers will not overwhelm power you in Jesus name.
As you see them today, you will see them no more in Jesus name.
In 1 Peter 5:8, the bible refers to them as imitation. They are ‘like a roaring lion’, they are not Lions. They do not have the power they claim to have or make you believe they have.
5. With God, you can never be stranded.
God will never leave His own, neither will He forsake them. Hebrews 13:6. Brethren, He will always keep His promise not to forsake us.
In Psams 50:15, God asked us to call unto Him in the day of trouble and He will deliver us. we serve a God who answers prayers.
Psalms 46:1 tells us that God is our refuge and strength; and a very present help in trouble.
Isaiah 43:2 – when you go through the waters, I will be with you;
Imagine the assurance we have in His word.
6. Obey divine instructions and follow divine direction.
God has the history of every problem and knows exactly what to do to solve it.
Let us consider the accounts of 3 blind people in the bible.
a) In Mark 10:46-52, Jesus only spoke the word to open the eyes of blind Barthemaeus.
b) A man blind from birth in John 9:7 was asked to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam after Jesus applied spat on the floor and rubbed it on his eyes. The man obeyed and came home seeing.
c) For another blind man in Mark. 8:22-28, Jesus spat on his eyes and laid hands on him.
Three blind men received three different answers.
The lesson here is that Jesus knows what to do to solve your specific problems. Therefore, you cannot copy another person’s formula, you need to go to Him.
And whatever He says to you, do it. John. 2:5.
I pray that God will speak to you, guide you through a language or medium that you will understand in Jesus name.
He will also give you abundant grace to obey Him and follow His direction.
You will not be overcome by the spirit of error. You will not miss it this year in Jesus name.
7. There is a reason why God does what He does.
Eccl. 3: 1-8 shows clearly that God is a God of time and purpose.
In the midst of darkness that covers the world right now, God wants His children to shine so that you can show forth His glory. 1 Peter 2:9
Let the world know that He is all powerful. Tell them about His greatness and loving kindness. Showcase His breaking powers and ability to turn ugly situations around.
Win souls to the kingdom of God. Proverbs 11:30
Are you going through difficult times? Things are not working in line with your expectations? There is no hope of a glorious future?
Look up to God for direction today. He is the very present help in trouble.
May God turn every bitterness in your life to sweetness. He will turn your mourning to dancing again. He shall wipe away all tears and turn our sorrows to laughter in Jesus name. Amen.
If you are not yet saved, please confess your sins to Jesus Christ and accept Him as the LORD and Saviour of your life from today.
If you were saved, but unsure of your salvation now. You need to redediate your life to Him afresh.
