Fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives as Christians.

SCRIPTURAL TEXT: Colossians 1:16
“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”

WORSHIP SONG
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Good morning my brethren. Our God is worthy to be praised and worshiped for who He is and for all He has done for us in the past, for what He is doing for us now and for what he will do for us in the future. Let us join the twenty-four elders to worship Him:

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

Today, I would like us to look at what it means to live a life of purpose as a Christian. We are born through the purpose of God and for His purpose. We do not discover our life’s meaning by looking within ourselves. We did not create ourselves, so we cannot look inwards to find out our purpose. Only our Creator can reveal our purpose to us. We can learn of His purpose for us through His owner’s manual: The Bible, so it is only in God that we can truly understand and find ourselves.

Are we fulfilling the purpose of God on earth? Christ wants us to live as light on earth. Are we living as light? Are we reflecting the glory of God? Christ came not just to give us salvation, but to teach us how to fulfill purpose by living a life of righteousness, holiness, purity, obedience, integrity, and love.

Ephesians 4: 1-6 states “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

We must show our new life in Christ as exemplified through the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. Our lives as body of believers should show oneness and unity. We should avoid all forms of strife, discord and disunity.

God is the source of our life, to discover our life’s purpose we must go back to His Word, not the wisdom of the world. Ephesians 1: 11-12 says “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” So, we must build our lives on the eternal truth which is Christ Jesus.

Wonderful changes happen in your life as you begin to live it on purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “1 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Benefits of living a life that fulfills the purpose of God:
1. It gives meaning to one’s life.
2. It simplifies your life.
3. It focuses your life.
4. It motivates your life.
5. It prepares you for eternity.
6. It is a path to peace.

As Christians we should choose to live a life of purpose with God at the centre. I pray the Lord will give us the grace to live a life that fulfills his purpose and not our own in Jesus Name.

Let us Pray
1. Father, you chose us and called us to follow you, we pray that you will give us the grace to know and appreciate the value of our salvation and faith in Christ.

2. Father help us to be willing to sacrifice anything to remain steadfast and committed to our divine purpose in Jesus Name.

3. Father please may we fulfill your divine purpose for our lives.

4. Father we have been created for your pleasure; may our lives bring you pleasure in Jesus Name.
