The grace to live a holy and a righteous life, Father, please grant unto us in Jesus name.

Father, we pray that as we share your word today, Lord please minister to us all in Jesus name.

Lord, thank you for answered prayers.

In Jesus name we have prayed. Amen.

Good morning everyone.
Believe all is well.
Today by the grace of God, we shall be sharing on on the topic; Envy.

Envy may be defined as the desire to have a quality, possession or other desirable thing belonging to someone else.

Being envious is a negative emotion, which could lead to bitterness and it may cause someone to do negative things, to hurt the person one is envious of.

The bible also mentions envy as one of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:19 – 21.

From our bible text for today, Cain and Abel were the children of Adam and Eve. They were brothers.

At a certain time, they both brought offerings to the Lord. The Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering.

Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.

Cain was not happy.

The Lord said to Cain, ” Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.

Cain expressed his anger, but God still cared for him by still talking to him, asking him why he (Cain) was angry.

God also warned him in verse 7b “And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.

Eventually, Cain killed his brother Abel (Genesis 4 vs 8)

God cares for each and everyone of us because He is our creator and our Father. He wants the best for each and every one of us. In Jeremiah 29 verse 11, the bible says that; For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

At times in life we may want to achieve certain things or occupy a certain position. When we don’t get to achieve that thing or occupy that position, we may begin to be envious of the person who has achieved that success we desire or has occupied the position which we so desire.

Rather than being envious of the person occupying a position we desire e.g at the work place, one of the things we may need to do is to be diligent in the current position we occupy. The bible says in Proverbs 22 vs 29 that; Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings. He will not stand before unknown men.

Also, when we desire some things and we do not get them, according to Romans 8:28; And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

The grace for us not to be envious of others, the Almighty God shall grant unto us in Jesus name.
