HYMN: We have an Anchor
Everlasting Father, hallowed be your name. You are the Alpha and Omega, and forever you are God.
Father, we thank you for the gift of life, for another day. Be thou exalted for ever. We are grateful for the gift of Your son Jesus Christ, for Your Word that never fails, and for another opportunity to come to Your Throne of Grace. Glory to Your Name, Amen!
BIBLE TEXT : 1 Peter 5:10
“In His kindness God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” NLT
“After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace (who imparts His blessing and favour), who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (making you what you ought to be).” Amplified
Good morning Brethren. We have been taught, admonished and assured that after year 2020, we have entered a season of restoration and recovery. Apostle Peter entreats readers that after pain and suffering there will be a reprieve. Relief is not just that to come in the hereafter, but on both sides of eternity.
Peter mentioned the all-encompassing ramifications of the restoration after pains and trying times. That through His Grace, God will perfect, establish, strengthen and settle us (KJV):
Perfect- Our Lord will restore, mend what is broken, fill gaps and voids and provide a pathway to return to status quo.
Establish – Our Lord will provide buoys and anchors to ensure and maintain the restoration pathway. Anchors will be to spirit, soul, body, estate, careers, finances, relationships to ensure there is no deviation or straying away from the pathways HE makes available.
Strengthen- Our Lord will strengthen us in the inner man, and in physical and material terms. There will be strengthening and increase of grace, faith, resolve and determination to run and complete the Christian race. There will be increased fitness to bodies, healing unto wholeness .(Luke 17:19) Enhanced finances, systems, abilities and capabilities will also manifest.
Settle- Christians will eventually be implanted and rooted in the foundation which cannot move. They will be positioned to enter the expected end both on earth and in eternity.
We are assured in God’s Word that after pain and trying times HE would go beyond restoration to establish, strengthen and settle His own. In the book of Job (Job 42:12-16) we see that after trials Job was lifted and settled to higher levels than before. His testimony was not only double of material blessings and fruitfulness, but of increased faith and dedication to the Lord. Job declared “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.” (Job 42:5)
Restoration and perfection are rendered by God’s mercy and grace alone which is available only to those HE chooses. (Romans 9:15) ”I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion. So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” NKJV
Humility, Obedience, Prayer: In verses prior to our text for today, Apostle Peter admonishes Christians to be humble, sober, vigilant, resist temptation, and be steadfast in the faith. (1 Peter5:5-9) Communities and nations are also called upon to humble themselves, pray and seek God for healing and refreshing .( 2 Chronicle 7:14).
By God’s Grace we will be candidates of the fullness of His mercy, restoration, establishment, strengthening and settlement in Jesus name. Our testimonies will be of lifting ups, despite casting downs all around us. (Job 22:29) “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, there is lifting up; and HE shall save the humble person” KJV
- Father, I thank You for the gift of life, your mercies and faithfulness that has seen us into this season of your promised healing and restoration.
2. Father, I thank You for your grace that is available unto me through the blood of Your Son Jesus Christ (Titus 2:11), and the privilege to boldly approach Your Throne of Grace .(Hebrews 4:16).
3. Father, please enable me to truly humble myself before You, as I ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Abundant Grace.
4. Father, by your Grace I am empowered unto being sober, vigilant, and obedient. I receive Your instructions and quickening to carry out all that I am required to do promptly and excellently to Your glory.
- Father, in Jesus name I enter into the fullness of Your promise of restoration .(Joel 2:25). By Your Grace beyond restoration, I will be established, strengthened and settled into the expected end, on earth and in eternity. (Jeremiah 29:11).
Thank You Jesus.
Jesus Loves You.
