THE KING IS COMING

TEXT: John. 14:1-4

“ Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

 THE MESSAGE

Today is the 18th day of the year 2021. It is still a brand new year and I wish you a happy, prosperous and victorious 2021. It shall be your year of recovery and restoration in Jesus name.

Like we did in the previous years, we have set out our goals, aspirations and desires for 2021. If the Lord delays His coming further, we would have achieved those goals by the end of this year no matter how audacious they may be in Jesus name.

As we seek to attain greater heights physically, materially, financially etc, I have a burden to share with us on a rather unusual topic – The King is Coming.  I pray that it serves as a reminder, assurance as well as a check on us of who we are, why we are here and where we are going.

In 2 Cor. 10:3 the bible tells us that, though we live in the world, we do not belong to the world. We are also reminded in Phil. 3:20-21 that our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself.

So, who is this King that is Coming?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the King who is coming. John. 14:1-4.

Acts 1:8-11(But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”)

Rev. 21:12 (“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.)

 When is He coming back?

1. No one knows when He will come back except the Father.

Matthew  24:36 (“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father).

2. It is not for us to know the times or dates the Father has set for the Son’s return. Acts 1:7 (He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority).

3. When (after) the scripture is preached to the whole world.

Matthew  24:13 (And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come).

4. A time of trouble like the world has never witnessed will precede His coming.

Daniel 12:1 (At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered).

Matthew 24:29-30 (Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory).

5. At a time not expected by most people.

Matthew  24:50 (The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of).

Matthew 24:37-39 (As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man).

How will He come back?

1. He will come back in the sky, with the clouds. All eyes will see Him

Acts 1:11 (“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven).

Rev. 1:7 (Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen)

2. A loud sound and the trumpet will herald/announce His coming.

1 Thess. 4:16 (For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first).

3. He will come back as a Lion.

Rev. 5:5 (Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”)

What is He coming to do?

1. He is coming to take His Saints to be with Him.

John. 14:3 (And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am).

1 Thess. 4:16-17 (For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever).

Will you be among them?

2. To judge the world of its sins

Rev. 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

What should I do for His coming back? How should I prepare for His coming?

1. You must be saved and remain in Him.

1 John. 5:11-12 (And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life).

2. Watch and pray

Luke 21:36 (Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man).

There are a lot of events in the world that may distract a Christian from watching his/her ways for the coming of the King. Please remember what the bible says about the days of Noah in Matthew 24:37-39

3. Be Ready

The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew. 25: 1-13 is very instructive here. There may be no time to play catch up.

4. Live every day as if it is THAT DAY.

Please settle all sins and anything that can hinder your joining Him in the cloud should He return today, now.

James 5:7-9 (Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.)

 Conclusion

Nothing in this world is good enough for you to miss the imminent coming of Jesus Christ.

Mark  8:36-37 (For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul)

 Prayer Points

1. Father, please help me to put You first in all that I do, think and speak in Jesus name.

2. Father, please make me worthy of your coming. Don’t let me miss heaven for any reason in Jesus name.

3. Father, please make me a light to the darkness around me. Use me to wins souls of my loved ones and all around me to your Kingdom in Jesus name.

Thank You Jesus.
