Hosea is known as the prophet of hope. While he talked about Israel’s faithlessness, he held out a beacon of hope to a people meant for doom. The circumstances in Hosea’s times in Israel was very much like the state of affairs in Nigeria and the world today. We are more interested in ourselves and gratifying the needs of our lust and flesh. We turn our desire for fame, acceptance and money into gods. We worship money and believe that the mammon god of cash solves all the problems once we have it. This god determines all our primary actions.
Though we camouflage as if we are worshipping the God of heaven, it is only a make belief. Our hearts are far away elsewhere. That is why we see so much of religion but no morals. This affects us collectively as a nation. We do not shine as light to the world anymore as Jesus Christ demanded.
We are a nation where falsehood thrives. Are we not doomed? No, there is still hope if only we repent our sins, as Hosea called for true repentance and acceptance of the only true God.
Jesus holds out the promise of true salvation and care to all those who trust in His redeeming grace. Jesus said “Because I live You will live also” (John 14:19b). We need, like the Israelites of Hosea’s time, to turn our mind back from the ‘god of self’ to the only true God and worship Him whole heartedly. He said “wash, make yourself clean, put away evil, learn to do good, seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow… Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow,.. as red as crimson, they shall be as wool” (Isaiah 1:15-18).
MEMORY VERSE: Hosea 2:23 “I will plant her for Myself in the land; I will show My love to the one I called ‘Not My loved ones ‘I will say to those called ‘Not my people,’ ‘You are my people,’ and they will say, ‘You are my God’.”
PRAYER: Father, in me reveal Your Son Jesus Christ and to my innermost soul make known how merciful You are. Amen.
