In this chapter, Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, was emphasizing the unity of the church, whether one is a Gentiles or a Jew. The barricading balustrade in the Temple in Jerusalem separating the Gentiles from freely entering or worshipping in the Temple, had been pulled down. Paul’s problems and the unending wars the Jews waged against him began when the Jews saw Paul taking some so-called Gentiles into the Holy Temple during his visit to Jerusalem at the end of his second missionary journey.
He, therefore, reminded the Ephesians that in the time past, they were carnal, uncircumcised both outwardly and inwardly. Now that they were in Christ and Christ in them, they were no longer aliens or strangers but members of the commonwealth of Israel, having the same rights and privileges as the Jews in Christ.
Today, there should no longer be any segregation in the Church. All nations, all tribes, all people and all races are free to worship in the Church or the Temple. The Church doors are wide open to anyone to call upon the name of the Lord.
Are you still like Jews who think that God is for them alone? Jesus did not come into the world for the Jews alone but for all races, tribes and people. Whether Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Kanuri, Calabar, Nupe, Ibiobio or Edo, Fanti, Ga or whatever tribe or nation, all are one in Christ. No discrimination; No segregation, hatred nor ill-feeling against one another. They have been united and cemented together with the blood of Jesus Christ. It is, therefore, worrisome that such vices as discrimination, tribalism, racial segregation and unhealthy rivalries still exists in the Church. We should do away with such vices and little foxes.
EPHESIANS 2:11-13 “But now in Christ Jesus, you who sometimes were far off are made near by the blood of Christ.”
God of Love, Compassion and of Grace, unite the body of Christ. Do not allow the devices of Satan to tear it asunder, as we pray through Jesus’ Christ, Our Lord and Saviour, Amen.
